This paper illustrates the most important features of a novel robotic concept, called Swarm Robotics using Swarm-bot project as an example. As a pre-requisite, the concept of robotics, robots and their classification and Swarm Intelligence is briefly given. The History of swarm intelligence, the link to Swarm Optimization and finally Swarm Intelligence System is described along with its properties.
`Motivations for Swarm Robotics and Characteristics of Swarm Robotics are described. Case study on the properties of S-bot and Swarm-bot; Basic behavioral capabilities of swarm-bots is included. The domains of application and bottlenecks for swarm robotics design will be briefly discussed.
